We are scaling up! Omise is under-going a period of sustained growth and we are expanding. As well as increasing the number of engineers we will need to bring on top-class leaders to help our teams grow and succeed. We are determined to create the best environment possible to work in, for both engineers and the customers our products assist. As such we are on the look-out for A-player development managers who promote both a bottom-up, ownership culture as well as having a very strong engineering background. Some companies decide to make a distinction between “people” and “technical” managers. We do not; we are looking for those high-functioning individuals who have great skills at working with people; getting the best from them. At the same time those individuals need to be extremely strong technically: it is through our leadership we can help coach our engineers best practices in architecture, scalability and robustness.

What you will be doing

Fundamentally any leadership role here is about creating fantastic teams and you will have the ownership to decide how best to make this happen. You will need to lead up to a maximum of 8 direct reports. It is your responsibility to have this group of people function at the very highest level.

Naturally then recruitment, coaching, best practice, methodology will all fit within your areas of expertise. Development Manager is still principally a technical role - whilst it may not be necessary for you to code on a day-to-day basis (up to you if you like to use code as a way to educate / reach people) what will absolutely be necessary is for you to own the engineering quality of your systems and subsequently the engineering culture within your team. This will touch monitoring, support, code, architecture, deployments, horizontally scaling products, self-healing systems - World class systems created by World class people.


  • Our development managers will come from strong engineering backgrounds, usually in the form of (but not necessary to have) previous experience with high throughput / scale Internet companies. We are looking for established managers who have direct experience in creating high-performing self-managing teams - as such a minimum of two years in a management role will be necessary. This may seem low to some - firstly: it’s a bare minimum, and secondly we are looking for highly skilled individuals and recognise there are the “10x” engineers who race ahead of the crowd. Exactly the kind of people we would love to join our organization.
  • Whilst our managers are not expected to produce production code regularly (management needs to avoid becoming a bottleneck in all instances). It will be important to demonstrate the very highest level of coding skills. This can be in any language, but we would expect proficiency in at least two. Here at Omise, our teams own the system: not simply the code. Experience working in such an ownership driven environment will be important as will the ability to demonstrate working with hardware (devops, monitoring, deployment, system architecture etc) in previous capacities.
  • Another “string” to the bow of any potential leaders will be exceptional experience working in agile, ideally Scrum. Candidates will be able to discuss their success with their methodologies, how success was measured and the differences it made to their respective businesses. The best candidates will not simply just be able to explain their chosen methodologies but be able to examine the methodology in detail and explain why various processes / ceremonies were successful - how did it make the team think differently? What did it optimize for? How did you explain this process to the team? Connected to agile methodology, the successful candidates will be able to explain what is meant by a top-down mentality and describe how they indeed have this mentality - complete with examples of KPIs they have either set or achieved.
  • This position is based in our Bangkok Head office (immediately from position commencement).
  • We're an international team. Therefore international level English language skills, spoken and written, are required. Thai proficiency is a plus.
